    Yes, a few.

    10) Have you ever met up in person with someone you met over the internet? If so, how did you meet them online?
Yes, one was from a private chat room; one was through a mutual friend; one was from an online dating site.

    11) If you have met someone in person that you met on the internet, was it a good experience, or do you regret it?
Fortunately, I have never had any really negatives experiences. For the most part, they have been neutral or positive.

    12) Have you ever been bullied or threatened on the internet? If so, did you take the
    threats/bullying seriously?
Sure, anyone who’s ever run a message board has gotten a flame or a threat of some kind. I never take them seriously because its usually just some bored person trying to stir up some attention for him/herself.

    13) Do you know anyone that has been bullied or threatened on the internet?
    Yes.

    14) Have you ever been sexually harassed on the internet?
Getting sexually harassed on the internet is difficult I would think. If anyone approaches you with anything you don’t want to do or be a part of, its always easy to just block that person or close the site.

    15) Have you ever had to “block” anyone for any reason?
Yes. I mostly block spam email addresses or random strangers who have managed to get a hold of my screen name.

    16) Do you feel safe using the internet?
If you’re smart about your use its perfectly safe.

    17) If you have an account on a social networking site, (Myspace, Facebook, etc.) do you feel safe revealing personal information on your account? (Such as your email address, your home town, what activities you enjoy, what you did that day, etc)
No. I keep any sensitive or personal information private or on limited view (friends only)

    18) Is your account private, or viewable to anyone?
    Limited view to everyone.

    19) Do you avoid posting certain pictures or status updates because you fear it might get you into trouble with your job, parents, friends, or coworkers?
Yes. I untag or delete anything that could be considered questionable. I’m in education, so my profession is particularly sensitive to that kind of thing.

    20) Have you ever, or do you know anyone that has been fired or denied a job due to the content on their Facebook or Myspace account?
I’ve know people who have gotten in trouble, but not fired or denied a job.

    21) Have you ever purchased anything on the internet? If so, did you feel safe about spending money over the internet?
Yes, I make internet purchases all the time – particularly on amazon.com and ebay.

  4. 22) Have you ever had a bad experience using the internet? Explain if you wish.
Not all experiences have been positive, but nothing is sticking out in my mind as really negative either.

    23) How do you think your life would be different without the internet? Would you be able to do the things you normally do?
I could function without the internet, but I wouldn’t really want to. I use the internet for lots of things, including being creative (writing, designing, etc)… so not having access to it would majorly stunt my hobbies and passions.

    24) If you wish, please tell me anything else regarding your use of the internet. You may include your fears of internet usage, why you like the internet, or any specific stories or events in your life that were impacted by the internet.

I think in general, the internet can be an extremely useful tool – both positively and negatively. The internet itself isn’t responsible for anything – its all about who’s using it. One of the greatest things about the internet is that it’s free and open to the public. In a way, it’s a modern outlet for democracy and free speech. The internet has every extreme and everything in between. In that regard, it’s the world’s best equalizer.

The only really, consistently negative affect I think the internet has had is on the way people communicate. More and more nowadays, people are reluctant and unable to communicate in person. They’d prefer to text or chat on aim, which I think is a poor substitute for interacting in person. People’s conflict-resolution skills have really taken a decline since the internet. Most people I know, especially in the younger generation, would prefer to passive-aggressively take out their anger at someone on their facebook status or in their away message, rather than talk to that person on the phone or in person. Very often, people hide behind the internet rather than face their conflicts and work out their problems.

    22) No

    23) I would not be able to network with my old and new friends. I don't have the time to call, so the internet is a quick and easy way to keep in touch with friends. It is also a massive resource for researching and getting the latest news. It is also a great time killer I would not be able to do some things normally without the internet.

    24) The internet is a great, but dangerous tool. Can do alot of good, but has the potential to do much damage to individuals and even the nations, even though that sounds a bit dramatic. One should be able to conduct his/her own business on the internet without living in fear, but also be cogniscent and aware of your activities on the internet.

I had taken a training course on the use of the internet as a source of intelligence gathering, security of information, and hacking. It changed the way I view the internet and made me more observant of my own activity. The first day of the course, the instructor had told us he had people viewing our social network profiles in order to learn about us.

It must be understood that information is always being observed or that anything we post has the vulnerability of being seen by unknown parties. These social networks are being hacked daily and that these security controls are not the best.

The internet is weak and very insecure when it comes to personal privacy. But that doesn't mean we can't use the internet at our own pleasure, but also at our own discretion and observations. Using the internet is just a matter of credibility among sites and discretion.
